From September 9–11, the Conference on Critical Minerals and Metals (CCMM) took place at Argonne National Laboratory in the U.S., bringing together representatives from the G7, EU, and Australia for high-level discussions on the future of critical raw materials. On Policy Day, the EU-funded MaDiTraCe Project was invited by the European Commission to contribute to a session on mineral traceability.
Daniel Monfort from BRGM as Coordinator of MaDiTraCe, presented the current state of EU material traceability for critical raw materials, highlighting its connections with key regulations such as the CRM Act, the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), and the Battery Regulation. He also emphasized the importance of digital tools like material and product passports, as well as the need for robust data control mechanisms to ensure transparency, sustainability, and trust.
This participation underlines the role of EU innovation & research in driving global cooperation and shaping the future of responsible sourcing, secure supply chains, and sustainability.
