Driving Innovation in Raw Material Traceability: MaDiTraCe at Goldschmidt 2025

01 Oct 2025

The MaDiTraCe Project had a strong presence at the Goldschmidt 2025 Conference, bringing together experts from BRGM, Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), Ghent University, Leiden University, and Montanuniversität Leoben to present the latest advances in critical raw material traceability, supporting responsible sourcing for the green transition.

During the session Spatiotemporal Traceability of Geomaterials, part of Theme 05 – Earth Resources and Energy, innovative tools and techniques were showcased to track the origin and movement of essential resources throughout the supply chain. Featured topics included:

  • Fingerprinting of natural graphite, lithium, cobalt, and nickel.
  • Portable XRF and cathodoluminescence techniques.
  • High-precision isotopic analysis along the supply chain.

The session highlighted how these methodologies enable more transparent and responsible sourcing, aligned with sustainability goals and the clean energy transition. The MaDiTraCe Project’s participation at Goldschmidt 2025 reinforces its commitment to scientific innovation and international collaboration in addressing the challenges of critical raw materials.
